Strategic Access Manager – Immunology – SWest England/Midlands/NW England, S&W Yorks


Our client is a biotechnology company developing innovative medicines intended to improve people’s lives.


They discover and develop new medicines in order to offer new and better treatment options to patients affected by inflammatory and metabolic diseases. They are relentless in their drive to search for medicines with new modes of action, which address the disease itself rather than just treating the symptoms.


The Strategic Access Manager (SAM) will be the business unit Market access expert, helping develop the access skill set and competencies of the Territory Business Managers (TBM) where appropriate, supporting priority activities in the primary care payor arena, that remove barriers, drives differentiation and directly influencing prescribing choice, as well as capacity and patient throughput.


They will be responsible for both ulcerative colitis and rheumatoid arthritis disease areas. The role will require working across a larger network of TBM’s meaning the successful individual will need to be able to prioritise effectively, influence without authority and have a strong commercial mindset.


The SAM will also work alongside the Regional Business Manager and the Marketing Engagement Manager, supporting all of the promotional channels available (digital, face to face, virtual engagement, congress, training etc) and with the medical teams to deliver highly impactful customer interactions with a range of payor customers. The aim, ultimately, is to ensure unrestricted access to deliver sales and market share targets as well as removing any barriers for prescribing.


The role will be expected to bring environmental insights to the teams that will help shape the strategic focus and direction of the business as well as support the development of future promotional assets.


Candidate experience required:


  • Experienced and successful Key Account Manager from within the UK Pharmaceutical industry
  • Formulary and market access knowledge
  • High cost/specialist product knowledge
  • Good experience interacting with a variety of payor and clinical stakeholders
  • Working knowledge of Budget Impact Models
  • Extensive project based working including pathway redesign and shared care protocols
  • NHS environmental knowledge
