InStrategy and External Affairs we are responsible for shaping and embedding a strategy which delivers for our customers, communities and the environment. We manage relationships with key stakeholders, including regulators and policy makers, building trust to allow Thames Water to achieve its ambitions.
It is a very exciting time in Strategy and External Affairs as we are building towards our submission for the next price review later in 2023 alongside working to embed our vision for 2050 and delivering our annual performance report in July in a new way.

What you'll be doing?
The Strategy Manager is a curious and tenacious individual who proactively supports the Head of Strategy in turning Thames Water's long-term strategy into reality, ensuring strategic alignment across all parts of the company.
You will seek out and build a deep understanding of leading strategic thinking and practices, and how these apply to the Thames Water business. You will be key to ensuring to having the right capabilities, tools, processes and systems.
As a member of the Strategy and Regulatory Affairs team, the Strategy Manager will actively support the Head of Strategy in improving Thames Water's relationships with all our regulators and will work actively to support the culture.
Key accountabilities will incorporate
Support the Head of Strategy to drive Thames Water's long-term strategy.
Create detailed implementation plans to drive and track delivery of all aspects of the strategy.
Design and run appropriate governance, risk and assurance processes to enable effective decision-making and prioritisation in support of the strategy.
Work with Strategy team to embed ways of working underpin delivery of the strategy e.g. financial planning decisions, employee incentive programme.

Manage strategic modelling and analysts to inform and develop strategic plans, and making recommendations based on the output.
Drive regular cadence of engagement within the strategy communities of practice.
Proactively monitor external trends, both within the water industry and in wider society, understanding how those trends could/should impact the strategy.
What you will bring to the role?

  • Experience in a commercial, consultancy, financial or strategy function within a corporate organisation with demonstrable benefit delivery.
  • A truly collaborative leader with the ability to build strong relationships across multiple teams and disciplines, influencing to gain consensus and buy-in.
  • A creative thinker, with the ability to see multiple options, proactively look for the next practice, to think laterally and outside the immediate context.
  • Highly delivery focused, translating vision into actionable plans, systematising and embedding ways of working.
  • Experience of developing strategic projects from conception to benefits realised.
  • Able to independently prepare compelling materials to support on decision making on strategic topics.
  • Proven record of data analytics and commercial analysis.
  • Role models systems-thinking.
  • Thinks and operates in an agile way.

As part of your role, you'll be required to participate in a rota to provide Customer Incident Support, as requested by the Company from time to time. This may be by supporting our customers on the frontline as an Ambassador or being part of the team managing the incident as a Control Tower Lead.
