Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and creative Studio/Production Department Head to manage our dynamic design unit. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in print-based design, detailed knowledge of video and web production, and exceptional project management skills. A knowledge of exhibition, corporate and event design would be an advantage.


This hands-on role involves overseeing the creative process from concept to completion while managing third-party suppliers, to ensure delivery meets the highest standards of quality and creativity.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the studio/production department, providing direction and oversight to the team.
  • Manage the production of a wide range of print, video, and digital/web projects, ensuring they are delivered on time and to specification.
  • Implement project management processes to effectively track progress, deadlines, and budgets, ensuring a high level of productivity and efficiency.
  • Maintain hands-on involvement in the design process, contributing to the creation of visually appealing and strategically sound designs.
  • Liaise with other departments to ensure alignment of the Studio's output with overall company goals and messaging.
  • Coordinate and supervise all stages of production, from concept development to final delivery, ensuring design integrity and brand consistency.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with third-party suppliers, including printers, freelance designers, videographers, and web developers.
  • Negotiate with vendors to secure the best rates and ensure the highest quality of external production resources.
  • Keep abreast of the latest trends in design, video, and web technologies, incorporating innovative practices into the department’s output.
  • Conduct performance reviews, motivate the team, and foster a collaborative and creative work environment.
  • Manage the department’s budget, forecasting costs, and ensuring resources are used effectively.
  • Serve as a mentor, providing guidance and development opportunities to the team.


Qualifications and requirements:

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar role within a design or creative environment.
  • A degree in graphic design, visual communications, or related field.
  • Proven experience managing print, video, and web production processes.
  • Advanced knowledge of the Adobe Creative Suite, with special emphasis on InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat, Premiere Pro and After Effects. A good knowledge of Word, PowerPoint and Excel would also be an advantage.
  • Creative flair and exceptional understanding of design principals.
  • Strong project management skills, the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining a keen eye for detail.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills to engage with team members, staff, and clients at all levels.
  • The ability to manage and direct third-party suppliers and vendors.
  • Strong organizational skills with a methodical approach to creative challenges.
  • Leadership and decision-making capabilities.
  • Excellent time management. The ability to adapt to change and work within a fast-paced environment.
  • Adept at problem-solving and critical thinking.
  • High level of initiative, self-motivation, and assertiveness.
