Registered Veterinary Nurse – Surgery Nurse
Blaise Veterinary Referral Centre
Up to £34,000pa DOE plus benefits and up to £5000 relocation allowance
As the opening date for our new purpose-built hospital, Blaise Veterinary Referral Centre, approaches, we are delighted to now be accepting applications for Surgery Nurses to join our team.
This is a clinical role within the Surgery team, reporting to the Surgical Team Leader. The successful candidate will work primarily within the shift times of 07:00-20:00 from Monday-Friday – a 5 or 4-day working week will be considered, as will part-time applications.

At IVC Evidensia, we have over 100 referral sites that have joined our UK & Ireland network over the years. Blaise Veterinary Referral Centre is our first Multidisciplinary Specialist Referral Site that we have built from the ground up. This creates a unique opportunity for you to be a part of our journey from the very beginning. Situated in Longbridge, Birmingham, it is set to be one of the largest, multi-disciplinary referral hospitals in the UK and will have the capacity to treat up to 10,000 pets per year.
Sustainability has been a key priority for us, and we have included several green and well-being initiatives in the hospital in line with our Positive Pawprint strategy across the group.
The hospital will be one of the largest in the UK at over 36,000 sq ft, with the capacity to treat up to 10,000 pets per year. From the site we will provide specialist-led multi-discipline veterinary referrals and a 24-hour emergency care service for pet owners across the Midlands. The site has easy access from the A38 through Longbridge and is part of the West Longbridge regeneration project. The site has been designed to ensure that an open-plan collegiate working environment is created to support the positive and supportive culture that is integral to us.

Our surgery referral service consults patients which may include urgent referral cases and inter-disciplinary transfers from other services within the hospital and performs a range of surgeries including soft tissue, orthopaedic and neurology procedures. The surgery nurse will be involved in all the day-to-day activities of this service supported by the surgery animal care assistants and anaesthetists, and under the direction of the Surgery Clinical Team Leader. Surgery nurses will be expected to work to a very high standard, adopting an open and supportive team approach and using excellent communication skills.
Duties will include…
Anaesthesia and analgesia of cases.
Patient imaging and providing scrub assistance to the surgeon when required.
Documenting and communicating with the ward/ICU nurses about the patient’s post-operative care plan.
With the support of the surgery ACA, maintaining and preparing the theatre suites and specialist surgical equipment and instruments.
Relevant experience and personal attributes:
You must be a Registered Veterinary Nurse with a strong interest in surgery.
A relevant surgical qualification would be desirable but is not essential.
A keen interest in working towards clinical excellence in surgery is a must.
Previous experience in a referral hospital is desirable, but not essential. However, you must be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical knowledge and practical competence.

Commitment to the prioritisation of animal welfare, with the desire to provide the highest standard of patient care.
Positive outlook with confidence and belief in own abilities.
Working pattern
Shifts will vary between hours of 07:00 and 20:00 Monday – Friday. You will also be expected to take part in the Neurology service on-call rota. A 5 or 4-day working week will be considered, as will part-time applications.
