Job Description

Hybrid working – circa 2 days per week on site (Stevenage or Bristol)

Inside IR35 - £70 per hour umbrella

Job Role:

As part of our systems engineering team you will provide Failure Modes & Effects Analysis (FMEA) expertise to a major Complex Weapons defence programme, developing the latest capabilities for the UK Armed Forces in response to advanced threats. FMEA is a key tool for ensuring that our Engineers are generating the right evidence, using a balance of both digital and physical proving methods, to de-risk our product development and undertake design based assurance. As the System Failure Modes Analysis Engineer you will support the project team to gain a clear understanding of how FMEAs should be approached so that they are consistent and appropriately scoped.

Key Responsibilities:

You will work with Design and Proving teams to help answer questions on how might we:
Show our assurance community where digital/analytical techniques are, and are not, appropriate? (e.g. for environmental qualification)
Generate evidence at the appropriate level of the design (i.e. component, equipment, system) and taking account of integration factors? (requires scrutiny of equipment, subassembly and domain proving plans)
Reconcile evidence generated early in the programme with subsequent design iterations (noting that frequent iterations are encouraged)
Demonstrate confidence that there are no remaining failure modes that can only be mitigated – or only become apparent – at overall system level?
Key Attributes:
Systems Engineering practitioners with experience of conducting FMEA/FMECA for complex products, ideally in the defence, aerospace, motor sport or transport industries
Knowledge of Verification and Validation planning for complex systems
Familiarity with digital design tools and/or model validation processes beneficial
Ability to work in multi-disciplinary teams including systems design, integration and proving engineers, design engineers and specialist disciplines (aerodynamics, stress, guidance and control etc)
Knowledge of missile related technologies and design principles useful: software, sensors, guidance, navigation, propulsion, datalinks, energetics
