Role summary:


The Secondary Systems Support Engineer will manage Mitsubishi Electric Europe UK Branch - Power System Groups (PSG) interests in the Secondary System Support Contract. You will be the main point of contact to manage PSG’s response to defects or issues related to the substation control equipment covered by the SSSC on the National Grid network.


You will liaise with stakeholders in MELCO Control Team in Japan to ensure solutions are provided and implemented within the contractual timescales. You will be responsible for managing the spares strategy to ensure equipment is available and that a high level of reliability is achieved.


Working with Project Delivery Team and the Procurement Manager to produce balance of plant and write draft specifications for tenders, and management technical interface with MELCO. You will prepare drafts of technical bid evaluations bid evaluations; liaise with suppliers to receive the best technical solution and services. Again with support from the PM and Procurement Manager you will also ensure items are delivered on time.


You will effectively manage and report progress of any works covered under the SSSC framework.


Skills/Responsibilities:


  • Understanding of the Substation Control Systems and how its configuration changes can be changed to meet Client requirements such as addition or removal of equipment from the substation.
  • Prepare technical specifications for the extensions of the existing substation control systems.
  • Prepare technical specification for the required modification of software and hardware system
  • Manage and maintain test facility used to test changes in the Substation Control System databases prior to implementing on the Client’s substation sites.
  • Prepare FAT/SAT documentation if needed
  • Support FAT and SAT exercises where necessary.
  • Manage inventory of control assets
  • Develop spares strategy and ensure spares strategy will meet performance objectives and are available
  • Maintain obsolescence reports relating to the inventory of assets installed including a replacement plan where items are due to become obsolete during the Agreed Asset Engineering Life for all relevant hardware and software.
  • Maintain a database to record fault rectification history of any assets
  • Provide technical support to client site engineers including resolving site queries, attending meetings and sites
  • Ensuring service levels are maintained
  • Maintain a log of all customer enquiries
  • With the help of the nominated sub-contractor management of site investigation and by liaising with MELCO provide technical support to resolve site problems.


Experience:


  • Knowledge of industrial computer-based control systems and serial protocols
  • Basic knowledge of Linux/Unix based operating system
  • Basic skills in programming in a modern hight level language
  • Knowledge and understanding of industrial LAN configurations and communications protocols like TCP/IP, IEC61850, IEC60870-5-101, others
  • Good understanding of electrical schematic and logic diagrams
  • Knowledge of industry standards and best practices
