Technical Consultant- Commercial Liability Direct – (Full Time, Permanent Position)

Manchester – (Hybrid 1/2 days in the office)

Join us as a Commercial Liability Direct Claims Consultant as part of our Large and Complex Loss Specialist Claims team, where you'll manage a variety of claims to resolution and shape excellence in claims handling.

What you'll be doing

Reporting directly to the Technical Claims Team Leader, you'll settle a variety of third-party claims as economically as possible while maximising the speed of settlement and safeguarding the company’s reputation.You'll become an integral part of a centre of technical excellence for Motor and Liability claims, where you'll provide advice and guidance to colleagues and other business areas within Direct Line Group.

  • Manage own portfolio of complex and/or higher value commercial direct liability claims to include EL, PL, Disease and Products claims in accordance with personal delegated handling authority.
  • Check policy records to ensure that the loss falls to be considered under the policy.
  • Undertake all necessary investigations, with assistance of experts where required, to ensure all claims are fully validated.
  • Liaise with legal advisors (solicitors and counsel) where necessary over issues of policy indemnity and legal liability.
  • Using the appropriate medium, negotiate a fair and reasonable settlement of the Third Party claim.
  • Ensure knowledge of legal and procedural developments affecting claims handling is kept fully up to date. Where appropriate evaluate any relevant changes or developments, provide input into any impact assessment or determination of approach that should be taken by Direct Line Group and communicate results as necessary.
  • Act as a referral point and mentor to other members of the team as required, developing their skills and ability to contribute.
  • Where appropriate provide technical advice and support to other business areas to support the achievement of business objectives and be aware and make others aware of developing market trends.
  • Develop self in order to maximise personal contribution to the job.
  • Focus on costs, process improvements and/or efficiency to contribute to the profitability of Direct Line Group
  • Contribute to the development of claims handling strategy within Direct Line Group, identifying opportunities for improvements and strategies to ensure Direct Line Group continue to be seen as market leaders in this area.
  • Be aware of and comply on an ongoing basis with the rules and requirements any legal/regulatory/risk management frameworks.
  • Identify, own and manage the risks involved in running our business appropriate to the role, in line with the Direct Line Group risk framework.

What we're looking for

  • Demonstrated expertise in handling claims involving, Employers Liability, Public Liability and Property Liability, as well as Disease and Product claims.
  • Proficiency managing, end-to-end claims processes, with a preference for experience handling claims valued up to £100k.
  • In-depth understanding of common law and insurance-related legislation
  • Strong problem-solving skills, including the capacity to analyse complex issues, identify root causes, and formulate effective solutions.
  • A proactive and results-oriented approach to work, with the drive to meet and exceed performance targets.

Hours: 35 hours (Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm)
