The role

This role will suit someone who loves to work in a fast-paced environment whilst offering a premium customer service experience. You’ll enjoy a varied role utilising your claims expertise whilst out in customers’ homes supporting them with their claim. Claims types are varied and can range from dealing with buildings, contents or fine art damage within high net worth homes or assisting commercial customers to aid their recovery following an escape of water claim.

You will visit a customer in person or undertake a video call to assess policy coverage, identify the extent of damage to buildings, contents or business interruption elements, advise on mitigation and agree the scope of repairs and settlement.

In delivering exceptional service to our brokers and customers you will be a dedicated, confident, resourceful individual who cares for the customer and is empowered and technically equipped to make their own decisions on all types of property claims, with a particular focus on escape of water.

This role will predominantly cover Central London (by car or train) and either West London, Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Berkshire or East London, Essex, Herts & Kent (coverage area will depend on location) but a flexible approach to travel is needed because we are a small team and highly customer focussed. The expectation is that the successful candidate will have two administrative (desk based) days per week.

  • Validating, negotiating and settling claims fairly and proactively with an emphasis on prompt resolution and careful control of indemnity spend

  • Following a defined process and ensuring information is recorded in a clear and consistent manner with clear thought process and next steps planning

  • Liaising with customers and their contractors, disaster management companies, surveyors and our nominated contractors to carefully guide building work projects through to completion on budget and on time

  • Handling enquiries from policyholders, third parties and other experts on existing claims and identifying key triggers requiring escalation or additional review

  • Where applicable, providing risk management information and recommendations/requirements to both the policyholder and Underwriters for the improvement of the risk to Hiscox

  • Delivering first class technical assistance both on individual tasks and team projects within the Technical Team

  • Working unsupervised and showing initiative in your claims handling approach; understanding that each customer is different including identifying vulnerable customers and making appropriate changes to process or communications

  • Monthly visits to our Colchester office (attendance will be more regular during the initial induction period)

  • Supporting the wider claims team with technical and/or claims strategy advice

  • Working with our key suppliers to maintain high levels of performance and share best practice

Our must haves

  • Passionate about service

  • Proven claims handling experience in a field-based role dealing with high value property claims for both commercial and private clients

  • First class oral and written communication skills

  • Ability to work independently within the claims underwriting guidelines and strictly adhere to a claims handling authority

  • Solid attention to detail and confidence in dealing with internal and external customers and clients
