A market-leading specialist insurance company is looking to appoint a Head of Technical Underwriting to support the continued growth and development of their commercial underwriting team.

Reporting to the Managing Director, The Head of Technical Underwriting will play a crucial role in setting the underwriting strategy for the company, leading and developing our underwriting team, and ensuring the highest standards of technical underwriting and risk assessment.

About the Role:

  • The Technical Underwriting Manager will lead, mentor, and develop a team of Technical Underwriters, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional growth.

Responsibilities Will Include:

  • Setting clear performance objectives and provide regular feedback and coaching to team members.
  • Overseeing the development and implementation of underwriting guidelines, policies, and procedures across the company.
  • Ensuring underwriting decisions are made in compliance with regulatory requirements and company standards.
  • Reviewing and approving large or complex risks, providing technical guidance and support to the underwriting team.
  • Collating and analysing underwriting performance MI and produce business plans for the board and insurer partners.

Key Skills/Experience Required:

  • Extensive commercial underwriting experience, including having worked in a leadership role.
  • Previous experience working for or with MGAs would be beneficial or insurer background.
  • Experience of delegated authority and/or treaty binders.
  • Proven track record of developing and implementing successful underwriting strategies.
  • In-depth knowledge of underwriting principles, risk assessment, and regulatory requirements.
  • Strong analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and negotiate at all levels.

Salary/Benefits Information:

  • Salary up to £80,000 depending on experience.
  • 26 days annual leave plus bank holidays.
