Job Description

The Company

This is an excellent chance to be part of a nationally recognised food retailer who put quality and freshness at the heart of everything they do. They are now seeking a talented Trading Manager / Buyer- Grocery to join their Trading Team.

The Role

Reporting into the Trading Controller, you will take the lead on developing and implementing category plans for your specific product sector, making it your goal to improve efficiency, cost, quality and profitability whilst still maintaining security of supply. You will negotiate volume and time driven contracts to ensure strong availability and efficient logistics for own brand offerings. Along with this, you will be responsible for forecasting whilst having a good eye for any potential risks and understanding how to negate their impact.

Having the customer in mind, you will keep up to date with market trends and communicate your findings to the wider business to ensure continuous improvement. This will include working with the brand team to identify new products and then working with NPD teams in your supplier base to develop & launch new products. In terms of promotional responsibilities, you will be expected to build a compelling promotional plan ensuring it is relevant and competitive in order to drive category growth. This will include identifying seasonal opportunities within your product area that can help boost the category.

The Person

We are looking for an ambitious and self-motivated Buyer with experience of working for a branded business or retailer. You will have a strong understanding of cost drivers and context of the market dynamics from competitors to commodity influences.

You must also be able to adapt yourself to a variety of different tasks from administrative to complex and cross functional business projects. A commercial mind-set with the ability to negotiate is also essential alongside excellent communication, problem solving and analytical skills. You’ll be able to draw upon your previous buying experience in order to network and manage relationships with suppliers to achieve results.
