Transport General Manager – Newtownabbey

Key Responsibilities for a Transport General Manager:


Ensure Health & Safety is of the highest standard with key processes, measures and communications in place.

Develop and manage 10+ direct reports to ensure an efficient and cost-effective operation across a multi sited network in NI GB & ROI

Full P&L responsibility for the business unit

Develop strategic operating plans that reflect longer-term objectives to achieve efficiencies and improved profitability

Manage all KPI performance and provide KPI reports to the Parent Company

Work alongside the commercial team in representing the company to customers and professional trade associations

Forecast workloads and ensuring correct staffing & vehicle requirements are in place to achieve productivity and efficient targets.

Ensure timely analysis of productivity against agreed targets identifying improvement methods where applicable.

Ensure timely analysis of customer performance identifying progress against targets, any trends and improvement steps required where appropriate.

Participate in annual budget preparation and any relevant business tenders.

Report regularly on a formal basis about department productivity and profitability.

Carry out regular site inspections and audits to check policies and procedures are being implemented and adhered to.

Work alongside compliance team to ensure full compliance with activities such as Drivers Hours (Tacho/WTD), FORS etc.. assess and act upon the statistics relating to performance and compliance, assist in the preparation of reports

Meet performance targets for asset utilisation, efficiency, professionalism and safety in and around all operational enquiries

Identify failure to meet any performance and compliance requirements and suggest process improvement/effect resolution proposals to occurring issues. Set objectives for wider team regularly reviewing with them (minimum quarterly).

Undertake other duties and ad hoc projects as required by the business.

Plan and manage all duties as required on a day-to-day basis



Ideal Candidate for the position; as a minimum:


Must have a 7+ years management experience within the Transport and Logistics industry, coupled with pragmatic management style and commercial acumen

National & International CPC Holder

A good understanding of RoRo Irish Sea operations, ability to travel in UK/EU

Clean Driving Licence

Strength of character to achieve increased profitability, strong decision making skills reflective of a leader in a team environment motivating and leading people in a fast paced 24/7 operation.
