Find your future with us.Boeing Defence UK is responsible for delivering IT services to a number of customers both internal and external throughout the UK.  The Unix Infrastructure Engineer is part of the Infrastructure Team working closely alongside other technical teams, service management and programme functions.Linux Administrator is responsible for delivering and sustaining the Linux / UNIX infrastructure estate developing where possible automated process and workflows.

Maintaining and improving the quality and adherence to contractual SLA and KPI requirements of the programme within Boeing Defence UK (BDUK).

Working alongside the wider infrastructure, middleware and application teams to enhance the existing support and delivery functions by adopting an “automation first” mind-set.The successful candidate will be working within the Platform Engineering team to enhance the stability of the environment and improve methods of infrastructure delivery, they must be able to manage projects to completion.

This role will report to the Infrastructure Manager:Developing Dashboard views of Infrastructure estate.Manage incidents relating to the Linux infrastructure estateMaintaining documentation.Performing and enhancing (through automation) administrative tasks.Perform patching activities (automate where possible)Fault diagnosis including problem statements and mitigation planning.Identify areas of improvement. Support the delivery of an automated Infrastructure.Work closely with other Infrastructure teams to resolve issues and maintain service levels.The successful candidate will be expected to be part of a 24x7 on-call team and provide extended hours support via a team rota.Work closely with other teams across the business such as service management to improve efficiency of the infrastructure Essential Skills and knowledge:  Good demonstrable experience in a Linux Administration role Experience in a UNIX and RedHat role [RHEL7 & RHEL 8]Good UNIX/Linux systems administration skills, including configuration, troubleshooting and scripting.Troubleshooting and performance tuning experience.Excellent communication skills both written and verbalStrong organisational skillsWorking within an ITIL frameworkDesirable:  Experience of commissioning and managing an enterprise, on-premise Platform-as-a-Service, ideally RedHat Openshift.

Fluency in at least once scripting language such as Ruby, PowerShell, Python or Java.Experience of working within a secure and high availability environment.DevOps experience.

Experience of automation techniques such as Ansible, Ansible Tower, GitlabExperience of containerization such as Docker and Kurbenetes and OpenshiftRedHat Certification RHSA or RHCEOther information:SC eligibility is requiredHybrid Work Option (Virtual/Office): YesAll information provided will be checked and may be verified.Important information regarding this requisition: This position does not have sponsorship approval.
