Job Description

Our Gold Standard Cat Clinic and RCVS accredited training practice Plymouth Woolwell Vets for Pets has an excellent opportunity for a veterinary surgeon to join our experienced team.

Our practice owner Joanna has completed the ESVPS General Practitioner Certificate in Small Animal Surgery, has a Masters in Advanced Clinical Practice and is currently working towards an exotics certificate so with a passion for teaching, this gives you as a solid GP vet the opportunity to further develop your skills surrounded by a supportive team.

You'll also be working with an incredible nursing team including a certificate holder and nurses who undertake schedule 3 procedures, some of whom have been with the practice since it opened in 2014!

As well as a large, designated colleague area, facilities at our purpose-built practice include 4 consulting rooms, operating theatre, central preparation room and all the equipment you would expect from a leading GP practice along with orthopaedic surgical kits. We have a travelling orthopaedic vet with us once a week on average, along with a heart vet every Thursday which gives our team further opportunity to learn and develop from our varied caseload.

Ideally this is a full-time role, with flexibility for shorter hours considered if required. Full-time our vets currently work 4 days a week, in addition to a shared weekend rota when we open between 9am and midday on Saturday and 10am and midday on Sunday, for consultations and emergencies only. There are no OOH.

In joining our team and supporting a great community and client base, we are looking for a colleague with solid GP experience, a team player with great communication skills and someone who shares our passion for providing the highest level of veterinary care.

In addition to a rewarding role in an excellent location you can also expect to receive:
  • Competitive salary up to 60k
  • No OOH
  • Paid holiday of 28 days, rising to 33 days after 2 years of service
  • Extra day off for your birthday
  • Paid professional memberships including RCVS and BVA
  • Dedicated CPD allowance and time off including funding towards certificates
  • Life assurance 4 x annual salary
  • Contributory pension scheme
  • Relocation allowance (direct applicants only)
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Colleague reward hub - exclusive offers and discounts online and on the high street

The practice is situated on the South Devon Coast which as well as the role itself, must be one of the main selling points. There is surfing on the local outstanding beaches, walks on Dartmoor, socialising on the Barbican, relaxing on the Hoe and Cornwall is also just a very short drive away. Plymouth also benefits from a good rail service and ferry connections to France and surrounds.
We want our colleagues to be as diverse as our clients. Our teams are inclusive and celebrate difference so if you meet our role requirements, we'd love to hear from you.

Pets just see people. They aren't biased and they don't discriminate. We take our inspiration from pets, and we value and respect difference in all its forms. Our aim is to reflect the diversity of the communities we operate in, and every colleague can help us achieve this. We encourage our people to be themselves so even if your skills and experience don't perfectly align, if you think you can make a unique contribution through your values and behaviours, we want to hear from you!
