Job Description

Veterinary Surgeon- Maternity Cover -Cogges Vets, Witney

Salary up to £65,000 depending on experience

We are looking for a small animal veterinary surgeon to cover a maternity leave with our experienced, dedicated, and lovely team. The role will be for a minimum of 12 months, with the possibility of a permanent job at the end of it.

We care about your work/life balance

We offer flexible working patterns that flex with you and your lifestyle. Whether you are looking to flex your rota hours to balance the school holidays, fix to navigate the school runs or just looking to strike that balance between home and work-life. We can offer flexibility that actually works for you.

Your working day consists of 2 x 2/2.5 hour blocks of consults with dedicated admin time in the middle and at the end of your shift and one operating day a week. The only sole charge is at weekends or occasional evenings when you have 2 or 3 Registered Veterinary Nurses and back up if needed. We work 1:6 weekends with TOIL the week before and after but this isn't an essential part of maternity leave cover. There is no out of hours.

Want to know more about Cogges Vets?

Cogges Veterinary Surgery is a well-established, community practice in West Oxfordshire. Our single site, small animal practice was first set up in 1993 and we joined IVC in 2019. We have all the necessary equipment to provide a high level of clinical care including digital x-ray, dental x-ray, ultrasound and in house Idexx machines.

Our clients are some of the nicest you’ll find - many have been with the practice since its inception, and we get a good uptake of services.

Witney is a thriving market town with great links to Oxford and London, but also stunning countryside walks all around.

Come and join our friendly and supportive team!

We have a fantastic team of 6 experienced Vets, 10 experienced Registered Veterinary Nurses, 1 Student Veterinary Nurse, and a fully staffed Reception team - many of our team have been with us over a decade.

Our Vets have over 80 years of experience in clinical practice between us as well as ophthalmology and internal medicine certificates and two working towards diagnostic imaging certificates. We have been nominated as our areas’ Centre of Clinical Excellence and Centre of Operational Excellence. We were IVC's 2nd Positive Pawprint partner and won the IVC QI award in 2023.

Our successful candidate

We would like a Vet to be confident with all routine procedures including consulting, neutering and basic surgery. Dental x-ray training can be provided if this isn't something you have used. Fear free animal handling and great communication skills with both team members and our clients are important to us. A team approach to working is essential.
