Job Description

Blue Arrow is proud to be working in partnership with a family friendly run business based in Matlock. They're looking to recruit a Visitor Centre Manager to join their team on a full-time permanent basis based at their newly owned enterprise/visitor museum attraction site.
What does the Visitor Centre Manager role involve?
To ensure the smooth and safe practical operation of the Visitor Centre. The 'VC' serves several purposes. It is the point of entry to the museum and therefore where passers-by make enquiries and pay for admission and parking. It includes a souvenir shop and serves snacks and drinks, including barista coffee and fresh cakes. It also provides a function as a reception for the wider site. VC staff need to be able to deal with non-museum enquiries by phone and in person, receive deliveries, etc.

Opening hours are 11am-4pm, Monday-Saturday but we hope this appointment will enable longer opening hours, initially by opening at 8am or 8.30am on weekdays.
Hours: 40 hours per week - to be flexible to work between the below opening times and ensuring cover of staff between these hours/ any shift gaps.
Key hours for the Visitor Centre Manager will ideally need to work will be Mon-Fri (11:00am-2:00pm) and some Saturdays.

Mon-Fri - 7:30am -4:30pm
Saturdays - 10:00am - 4:30pm
Salary: £28,600
What duties will be included in the Visitor Centre Manager role?

  • Keeping the team appropriately trained and equipped.
  • Maintaining written operating procedures and any other necessary documentation
  • Overall responsibility for hygiene and food safety
  • Ensuring rotas are filled for the VC and the museum itself, including personally filling shifts frequently.
  • Responding to Visitor Centre/museum enquiries.
  • Stock control, including physically collecting supplies when necessary.
  • Generally ensuring the smooth and safe running of the VC in all respects.
  • Greeting and assisting any visitors.
  • Reporting to directors including through regular meetings

Additional Duties

  • Fulfilling orders for stock received through any online commerce operation.
  • Promotional tasks such as distributing flyers to agreed other venues or website/social media updates.
  • Assisting with Events held at site.
  • Assisting with the introduction of new product offerings.
  • Implementing changes as directed in respect of pricing or arrangement/design of displays.

What will you bring to the Visitor Centre Manager role?

  • Previous experience withing catering/visitor centre management.
  • Previous front of house/reception experience or similar.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Ability to communicate clearly and efficiently by email.
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Experience working in a hospitality or leisure setting.
  • Proficient in making barista coffee.
  • Hygiene / food safety qualification.

Advantageous characteristics:

  • Food preparation/catering experience and qualifications
  • Experience in managing a small team.

Where is the Visitor Centre Manager role based?
Our client is based in Matlock, so if you live in or near Matlock, great! If you have access to a car/can drive and live in Derby or the surrounding areas, then this should be a short commute. There are bus stop routes nearby, and Cromford, Matlock train station is a short walk away.
