Julian House is a charity dedicated to making a difference to the lives of some of the most vulnerable and disadvantaged people in society. We are currently seeking like-minded and enthusiastic Bike Workshop Volunteers to join our Trowbridge Bike Workshop team!

The Role:

Julian House Bike Workshops are social enterprises run by the Julian House charity. The workshops generate income through the refurbishment and sale of bikes and bike parts, and through services such as repair work delivered by teams of trained and professional bike mechanics. They also run Build-a-Bike workshops to enable people with a history of homelessness, offending, substance misuse or long-term employment to gain confidence and learn new skills.

Our volunteers help recover parts that can be resold from donated bikes helping to generate extra income and reduce waste.

What you will be doing:

Stripping down bikes and recovering parts that can be sold or reused
Assisting with shop tasks like organising our store of donated bikes or cleaning
After a period of volunteering and with the agreement of the Workshop Manager, you can begin to restore donated bikes for sale.

The skills you need:

You do not need to be a fully experienced bike mechanic, but you do need to be able to work independently as our mechanics can get very busy
You need to be comfortable working in a professional team environment
You must have some familiarity with bikes, for example knowing the parts of a bike
You must be confident safely using basic tools

We will reimburse out of pocket expenses if agreed before you start your role
You will have a volunteer manager who will support you in your role

This role is flexible, but we ask for a commitment of at least a few months to ensure consistency.
