Job Description

THE JOB

This is an exciting new opportunity for an ecologist to join the team at Borders Forest Trust to develop and implement a surveying and monitoring programme for its Wild Heart Sites. The Reviving the Wild Heart of Southern Scotland initiative is Borders Forest Trust's landscape scale habitat restoration programme being delivered on 4 sites owned by BFT in the Southern Upland Hills. The 4 sites, which comprise the Carrifran Wildwood, Talla & Gameshope, Corehead and Ericstane, span some 3,250ha of land and are the focus for the restoration of native woodland, montane scrub, peatland, wetland, heath and upland habitats. This new ecologist role has been created to monitor and evidence the changes and also to demonstrate the impact of this restoration work.

The part-time hours are 22.5 hours per week (0.6 FTE) and there is flexibility to how these can be worked. The salary is between £27,000 and £30,000 pro rata based on experience. The role will involve a blend of field work and desk based work, with office space available at the BFT office in Jedburgh and with potential for home working.

The work of the Trust is delivered by a dedicated, small team of friendly and enthusiastic individuals committed to restoring native woodlands to the south of Scotland and involving people in the process.
